Descrição
Winter is coming, and it’s time for a new bird feeder in our neighborhood.
We love watching the variety of bird species that visit, so incorporating a camera compartment was a must for me. I chose the Blink Outdoor 3 camera, which is often available at a good price during Amazon sales and runs pretty long on batteries.

This bird feeder is designed to be sturdy and practical. The structure is intentionally robust, making it suitable for printing even with PLA - at least for the winter and spring season where temperatures aren't usually that high.
Features
Camera Compartment:
The camera compartment has a modular design and is accessible via a back door secured with a slide-in mechanism and a single screw. The screw hole is optimized for an M3 heat insert, but if you don’t have one, a slightly thicker tap screw will also work. The heat insert is recommended for durability if you frequently access the camera. Inside, there’s space for a holder that positions the Blink Outdoor 3 camera at an ideal height and angle. I chose a modular approach to make it easy to remove the camera and potentially fit other camera models as well.
Bottom Section:
The bottom section is designed with a combination of bridging-friendly in design elements and a minimal amount of tree supports, making it easy to print and remove supports afterward. There will be a little bit amount of tree support in the inside, where a long plier or can help to remove it.
Roof:
The roof is a pretty tall print. I didn't made it too thin, in the hope that even an A1 will be able to print it without getting issues from the bed slinging at the higher end. Unfortunately I could only test it on my P1S where it printed without any issues.
Top Opening:
The roof is removable, revealing a large opening for easy refilling of bird seeds.
Mounting Options:
This birdhouse can be placed on a flat surface or mounted against a wall, tree trunk, or pipe. It features a top hole and two slots at the bottom, large enough for wide zip ties.
Decoration:
The frame, beam, and decorative sign are optional and can be glued on for a personal touch. Feel free to get creative! For small details, like the "Diner" sign, you can use tools like the MakerLab MakeMySign generator to customize your design.
Printing Tips:
Please make sure that your printing plate is clean and you've good adhesion - especially before printing the two large parts (bottom and roof). I'm using the new SuperTack Cool Plate since a few weeks and can't recommend it enough. It's adhesion is phenomenal.
I hope you'll enjoy the project. Feel free to share some captured photos in the comments :)
Update 11. Nov 2025:
I've added a second Blink 3 Outdoor Holder with a slight downwards angle view. Due to its modular design you can easily swap them out and pick what you prefer. You can see the angle in the picture below.
