A wrench for the tiny nuts used on CATIAV5FTW 's Turbofan Jet Engine Model.
I've been having fun printing @CATIAV5FTW 's amazing turbofan engine… but I find my fingers are too big for some of the nuts involved. So, I tossed this tool together in Solidworks (cloud app) and it makes assembly much easier… at least, less frustrating!
The “hockey stick” end is for the high-bypass stator connection to the first stage of the compressor, it can hold a nut and a washer in place while you get the screw in. As per the image, after tightening the screw, turn the wrench sideways and tilt it to get it out. Alternately, it’s easier to remove the wrench one the nut is well started, and then use needle nose just for tightening,
The pointy end can also hold a nut, useful for getting the nut inside some of the smaller cavities, like the inner part of the first turbine. It should be a friction-fit, so press the nut well into place to hold it until it’s well threaded.
It's designed to be printable with no supports, and on my X1C using the 0.12mm “fine” preset, it printed in about 17 minutes using PLA basic. One user suggested adding a brim… This may depend on the printer/material. I used a textured plate in an X1C and Bambu PLA Basic, so YMMV.
I’m working on something fun to add to the full-bypass version of the jet model, follow to stay tuned…
