Modelo 3D MDF AMS stacking stand por PeterMakesThings no MakerWorld

Descrição

My take on stacking 2 AMS's using an MDF sheet material which greatly improves the stiffness of assembly and limits the amount of plastic needed.

The panels are quite simple to cut, in UK where I am you can go to B&Q and get a larger sheet cut to size free of charge, I'm sure similar services can be found in most countries. Only problematic one is the back panel for bottom AMS, it needs a cutout for the 6pin connector cables and the PTFE tube. If you have a cnc I included the .dxf file, but it can also be fairly easily cut using basic tools. Bear in mind the back panel is not visible, so the quality isn't a massive factor, just need to make sure the cables and filament tube are not getting blocked.

Hardware required:

  • 12mm thick MDF sheet (plywood, osb etc will work as well), approx 600mm x 800mm
  • 38 x M3 12mm countersunk wood screws (example), 10mm long will work as well
  • 16 x m3 25mm (or 30mm) countersunk wood screws (example)

Assembly:

1. Assemble MDF Shell

  • see the pictures where each drill guide is to be used, highly recommend using these to assure precise assembly
  • all holes for putting together the MDF shell have to be pre-drilled with a 2mm drill!
  • in addition, the side panels need to be pre-drilled with a 3mm drill (ref drill guide 1 and drill guide 3)
  • only use the longer 25mm screws on the side panels (where the screw has to go all the way through)

2. Attach bottom MDF panels to the bottom AMS mounts (use 12mm screws)

3. Slide on 3d printed mounts for both bottom and top AMS onto the MDF shell

  • each of the 3d models has a bunch of holes to screw them onto the MDF board, this assures nothing gets loose
  • make sure to align the mounts correctly, dry test with an AMS if everything fits well
  • pre-drill with 2mm drill all the holes (without removing the parts from MDF shell), watch out not to go all the way through, limit the drill to 10-12mm
  • lock the AMS mounts with 12mm screws

4. Attach the ‘L side Drawer Rail’ to ‘R side Build Plates holder’ with 2 x 12mm screws

5. Attach Build Plate holders and Drawer Rails on to the AMS stack with 12mm screws (they should align with the holes pre-drilled in step 1 following drill templates)

I've included .dxf files for each panel as well as some .pdf's in documentation section with the dimensions of each panel. In addition there's a 1:1 scale pdf of the bottom AMS back panel so you can use it for reference when manually adding the cutouts for cables and ptfe tube.

Any problems/questions/suggestions feel free to drop a comment.
