This is an over-engineered miniature spool that is compatible with the AMS. It holds approximately 750 grams of filament and allows you to store approximately 150% more spools compared to Bambu’s standard spool. It was originally designed so that two people can split up a 1kg spool while maintaining all of the AMS functionality in both spools, including the RFID tag! It is also great if you are sick of partially used spools taking up so much room and want to optimize your storage. See a full list of features and instructions for use below. Instructions

Spooling

This spool does not accept “refill” from Bambu, and you must use one of the many re-spooling options to wind filament onto the spool. In some cases, you may want to re-spool filament twice (once onto an intermediary spool and once on the final spool. That way you can avoid wrapping an outer layer of filament (large bend radius) onto an inner layer (small bend radius) and creating internal stress in the filament.

Material

If you plan on putting the spool in a dehydrator, then it is a good idea to print it out of a heat-resistant material such as ASA.

RFID Tag Location

In the AMS and AMS Lite, there is only one RFID tag reader per bay, so only one tag in the spool is required for the AMS to operate properly. You just have to make sure that the location of the tag is on the same side as the location of the reader. In the AMS, there is one reader between the two right spools and one reader between the two left spools. In the AMS Lite, there is one reader between the two upper spools and one reader between the two lower spools. Position the tag in the spool so that it is on the same side as the reader by either placing the spool in the appropriate bay or by placing the tag on the appropriate side of the spool. If you have both tags in the spool, then you do not have to worry about which AMS slot you put it in.

Filament Label Customization

A set of labels is already included in the print profile, but you can create your own label using the Bambu Studio Text Tool. Place the text on the bottom side of the tag and set the Thickness to “0” and the Embedded Depth to “1”. You can change the font, size, etc. to whatever you wish. Make sure to set your tag and your text to different colors.
