Descrição
This project merges the principles of electromagnetism with a retro-futuristic design inspired by 1950s sci-fi rockets. Powered by a single AA battery, this homopolar motor uses simple components like magnets, copper wire, and a thumbtack to create a continuous, mesmerizing spin. The rocket structure, 3D-printed for a lightweight build, houses the motor elements securely, enabling the propeller at the rocket’s end to rotate, simulating a futuristic launch.
Key Features:
- Simple Construction: Uses a AA battery, four 3x6mm magnets, copper wire, and a thumbtack.
- Retrofuturistic Rocket Design: Retro-inspired rocket body keeps components aligned and aesthetically pleasing.
- Interactive Electromagnetic Effect: The motor generates a spinning force, showcasing basic electromagnetism in action.
- Learn electromagnetism principles and Lorents forces by doig.
What is a Homopolar Motor? A homopolar motor operates by creating rotational force through direct current passing along a conductor in a magnetic field. With no complex wiring, this type of motor demonstrates a pure, continuous spinning motion, a straightforward and fascinating way to explore electromagnetic principles.
Instructions
- Insert one AA battery and screw the top placing one end of a non ferromagnetic conductive cable (one for soldering is perfect) in contact with the battery pole
- Insert the magnets in the propeller and place the push pin on top, ensuring the pin is centered, flat and in contact with the magnets
- Insert the pin in the hole on the bottom of the rocket, the magnets will keep it in place
- Place the other end of the cable on the side or around the magnets until it start spinning
WARNING
The process causes the parts to gradually heat. Avoid prolonged use and make sure you do not overheat the battery.
