Descrição

Introducing ♔ M-Chess.

M-Chess is a fully 3D printed chess game, designed following the FIDE (International Chess Federation) standards at ⅕ scale. This ensures that the board is proportionally accurate to most chess boards. Each tile is 1cm², with the entire set coming in at: 8.58cm in length and width, and only 15mm in height. The small dimensions make this set very portable, while still being big enough to use for games.

Tiles were chosen to assemble the chess grid, meaning they can be printed separate from the board base plate. This not only reduces waste of using an AMS, but also makes it completely printable with no AMS required.

The tiles and pieces all have circular cutouts in the bottom, leaving room for 5x1mm magnets. This helps significantly in the usability of the chess set, as the magnets keep the small pieces in place on the grid. You can opt to leave them out, although it will be difficult to play without them.

For assembly, the tiles should click firmly in place into the grid, simply put a magnet inside the hole and push it down with something like a pen, ensuring the magnet is closer to the top surface of the tile beforehand. Printing a test tile for each colour is advised, as the tolerances vary slightly depending on the colour used. This can be compensated with the X-Y hole and X-Y contour compensation if the fit isn't right. For the chess pieces, a magnet should be glued into the hole on the bottom. Liquid CA glue works perfectly, but use very little to avoid it spilling out. Please be mindful of the polarity of the magnets when gluing them in, they should be attracted to the tile.

The chess board is used as the lid for the piece storing box, being slid in and held securely in place by friction. The door piece is also friction fit into the side, closing up the chess box but still easily removable to get the pieces out.

This is my first model made for 3D printing so I apologize if there is any issues with the files. I haven't 100% learned how to compensate for the tolerances in such a small model, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!
