Valveless 3D printed Pulse Jet Prototype

I designed a valveless Pulse Jet Engine based on the Lockwood Hiller concept. These simple, loud and extremely inefficient engines have always fascinated me and eventually I want to build a real one out of metal. But since I don't have the tools available yet, I started with a mini version as a prototype.

Why even make a small version?

As I discover more materials for 3D printing, I stumbled across the possibility of metal and ceramic FDM sintering which I would like to try next. Theoretically it is possible to get this to work, despite its small size. I just need to do more research and get the volumes & ratios right.

Test Run with a PLA model

Curiosity caught me and I couldn't resist to try it out. Also, I tested it so you don't have to. Long story short: Creating flames is easy, actually running it is not. I got a few oscillations which ran long enough to make the model bend, but not long enough to switch of the spark plugs power supply to see if it is self sustaining. More testing needs to be done, but with other materials.

Safety

I tested it on a silicone mat with another person and a fire extinguisher behind me. I definetely don't recommend trying to hook this up, it is better used as a display model and motivation for a future project.
