Updated 2026-01-03 with many overdue changes:
- Better clearances around magnet holes to easily accommodate 6x2mm magnets.
- Reduced dual-color thickness to 2 layers, saving on filament swaps.
- Added a print profile for dual extruder printers such as the H2D with integrated TPU rolling mat.
- Added a TPU rolling mat for single-extruder printers.
- Added versions without the ‘dice dragon’ cover image.
An opinionated dice box & tray for D&D 5E players. Print-in-place with a smooth hinge and magnet closure.
Why is it opinionated? Because this isn't your typical dice box, with space for several “standard” sets of dice. When's the last time you needed multiple d%, or more than two d20? Exactly. This dice box has space for exactly the dice you actually need: 4 of each damage dice (d4-d12), two d20, and one d%.
Also included is a stencil to aid with cutting out adhesive backed felt to fit inside the lid, which makes for a significantly nicer rolling tray. Alternatively, if you have a dual-extruder printer such as the H2D, a print profile is available with an integrated TPU rolling mat. Although harder TPUs such as Bambu's TPU 95A HF work, I highly recommend a foaming TPU such as Colorfabb Varioshore, which leads to a much softer mat.
If you only have a single-extruder printer, you can either print the stencil, and use this as a cutting template for cork, felt, or other material, or you can print the TPU rolling mat separately and glue it in. The same material recommendations as above apply; be sure to cover the whole bottom of the mat with superglue or another adhesive such as UHU so the mat glues in without any air bubbles.
Each profile has versions with and without the ‘dice dragon’ design. If you want to add your own design for the front, follow these steps:
- Start with the blank box. Convert your design if necessary to an SVG.
- Right click on the bottom surface of the lid, choose “Add Modifier → SVG”. Select the SVG for your chosen design.
- Click ‘Use Surface’. Change depth to 0.4mm, and select ‘mirror horizontally’.
- In the objects list in the left sidebar, find your new modifier and change the filament color(s) as appropriate.
- Print!
I highly recommend printing with a textured PLA and/or with a patterned build plate, for the best look.
