Modelo 3D Modular 6-Stroke Engine | Updated! por SanderdK no MakerWorld

Descrição

Fix: Valve train Part L scaling has been fixed

It turns out that somehwere along the line,on the valve train print profiles, I accidentally thickened the edges of Part L (responsible for connecting the camshaft to gear E). Part L has now been fixed. Special thanks to the users: @CreativeName123 and @dangerrzonee for pointing this issue out to me.

Both valve train print profiles now include the fixed part. For those that have already printed the profiles before this fix and do have this issue. I have uploaded a seperate profile that includes Part L only, for ease of printing through the app.

My apologies for the mistake and my thanks to the community for reaching out to me to fix this :D

Update! Newly added: Functional camshaft and valves + instructions V2

It took a little longer than expected but here is the first major update / add-on to the 6-stroke engine. Wanting to add more functionality to the model I decided to first work on the valve train as this would complete the main mechanism behind the engine.

!!Before making!!  :

  1. I have done a lot of testing but was unable to create a 3d printed spring for the valves that had a low enough amount of creep to function well. Therefore this print does now require 6 springs. I did wanted to keep the model as accessible as possible so I decided to use the most common ballpoint pen springs I could find. Therefore old pens with a spring that fits can be repurposed :)
(spring dimensions: 4,5mm dia x ~<=25mm long (longer may work but is not advised))
  2. The newly added “Camshaft” profiles include an extra plate that has 2 parts on it.
  •  A module spacer which is only required if you have previously printed an ‘older’ version of the engine that had a 10mm spacer. The new one is longer. (So need to print this if you already have the longer version or if you are just making the engine for the fist time :D)
  • A spring spacer. The springs required for the valves to function have a diameter of max ~<4.5mm and a length of preferably max 25mm. If your spring is shorter than 25mm, please increase the z-scale of the spring spacer to make up the difference. (e.g. if your spring is only 18mm, increase the z-scale of the spring spacer to 7mm)
If your spring is a little longer it should still work but may be stiffer to turn and cease on some speeds.

Print profile for A1 Mini requires gear tower to be (lightly sanded and) glued as it's split in 2 to fit on the build plate.

Instructions V2 include the valve train assembly as well as a correction on how much to turn each modules crank shaft for more accuracy.

Given the recent discovery that Porsche has come up with a new 6-stroke engine I wanted to explore the operations of such an engine for myself. Having come to a model that has proven (to me so far) reliable and functional I want the rest of the curious people out there to be able to have a peek at this type of engine.

As fate would have it this contest is now on so a perfect excuse to do a deep dive into making my own scale version of it :D

With no real dimensional drawings or other 3d models available I've been able to go all in and build this model from the ground up and I hope you really enjoy what I've made :D

The timings for the model were based on a picture I saw online, to try and match this the 1.667 rotation and -0.3334 rotation for the 2nd and 3rd piston respectively (from the base gear postions) was determined

Future plans for this model:

(The actual engine will more than likely be a flat 6 cylinder as can be seen in renders, so making it compatible with being used as a flat 6 is something I want to do)

(I still want to add a functional valve train to the model so that will be coming)

(When I figure out how to implement / create a variable compression element to the internal gear system this will be uploaded as a new profile :D)

If you want to work together on a variation of this model or if you have tips/ ideas on how to improve the model feel free to reach out to me as I am always open to ideas, suggestions and collaborations!

Assembly instructions provided in documentation

- Tools “required” (advised):

  • Small (flathead) screwdriver - Flathead is preffered as it also makes disassembly easy
  • Pliers

Has holes in base for 3,5mm screws to attach modules to a base plate.
