The Bedlam Cube is a 4x4x4 puzzle invented by Bruce Bedlam, who is awesome! I have adapted it with a ball in cube of my own design. I started this project years ago and never quite finished. I've been inspired to finishing posting this in the spirit of the recent MakerWorld puzzle contest which has many unique and clever design entries.
This is a challenging print for a more challenging puzzle. This is a great site to help with solutions. A lot of really interesting projects can also be found here: [http://www.scottkurowski.com/BedlamCube/](http://www.scottkurowski.com/BedlamCube/)
When I started this project I had a dual extruder FlashForge Dreamer. A great printer but the quality of my dual filament prints (due to my lack of patience and knowledge) was never satisfactory. Fast forward to the graphing calculator Bambu printer to the FlashForge's ‘abacus’, and I've finally finished the pieces.
Print Profiles:
- Puzzle : This is a big file and will take several days to print all the pieces! Support are needed for some of the overhangs and all of the spheres to hold them in place. If you have support filament, I recommend that because it can be a challenge to remove from the small parts. I have setup plates for each piece individually for convenience. There is also a small mock piece with an overhang in order to more quickly test out the print. As with the original Bedlam Cube color scheme, there are 3 plates with each of the 3 colors grouped together.
- Puzzle Box: This is my own version based of pictures online. It is friction fitting. One plate version contains groves in the box. My idea here was to keep the piece from moving around too much. A nice idea that sort of grips the piece so you can save your game (eye roll) but is largely negated by the sound of each sphere rattling around… It was just a thought. I made/added another version without the grooves.
- Transparent Box: My goal is to make a transparent box profile but it is giving me some awful stringing. I hope to post that soon after some more troubleshooting but it takes a very long time and there are so many other things to print! Sigh, the wife (boss) said that this wasn't justification to get another printer ;(
