[Introduction]

A desktop lamp! Somewhat industrial inspired, but working to introduce more curves into the various elements. I'm not entirely sure what style this fits under. It's an oddity in some fashion, but still a fun piece. An experiment into a few different styles and approaches.

There's ridges on the arms around the bolt holes, to help keep them in place, and notches on the arms to help keep the bolts from spinning, so you can tighten them down, and keep the arms locked in a secured position.

I wanted to hide the cable within the arms themselves. I'm using Bambu's LED kit on this, and placing the switch at the mid-joint on the arms. Some of the USB-LED lights from Amazon might be better, as the switch would be better positioned after the lamp.

[Printing Info]

A number of the pieces are tweaked for strength or weight. The arms are 100% plastic to help with flex. The bolts are beefed up to help keep them from splitting. The base is partially printed at 100% for weight, and the bolts used for the feet on the base are at 100% for the same purpose, to help keep the lamp sitting flat.

There's TPU feet! You can print them in PLA if you don't have any TPU, or leave them off alltogether, if you wish.

Hardware:

I use screws from Bambu's Makersupply, and mainly design around those. However, you can purchase self tapping screws from amazon if that's easier for you. I'd recommend an assortment like this Amazon US, or you can purchase just m3x8mm self tapping screws like these Amazon US.)

  • 1x LED Puck Light (I would recommend the one sold by Bambu, or one like this from Amazon US, or Amazon US. Either of these options should be good, and provide a better switch location vs the Bambu one)
  • 11x BT3x8mm Self Tapping Screws (Can be done with 10 screws, if you leave one of the interior screws out, for the back part of the light housing.)

[Assembly]

Run the LED light's cable through the hole in the back of the housing. the smaller hole is for the attachment of a zip tie, to help keep the LED's cable secure. Secure the back with 2-3 M3x8mm self tapping screws
Attach the front ring with 3 M3x8mm Self tapping screws
On the arms, there are 12 little support bridges to clip. Clip and remove these so we have a clean path for the cable.
Run the cable through the channels on the arms, and secure both arms together using 2 M3x8mm Self Tapping Screws. (For Bambu's light kit, the switch fits best when positioned between the two arms, like in the main photographs. For light pucks sold by Amazon, the position of the switch will be different.)
Use the printed bolts to secure the Lamp housing, arms, and base together. There's a notch on the bolt head side, to help keep the bolts from spinning.
Assemble the 3 feet, using 3 M3x8mm Self Tapping Screws to secure the TPU foot to the base plastic foot.
Lastly, install the 3 feet onto the base.
