ByteHex Modular Coaster

The ByteHex Coaster is a customizable, drink coaster built around a modular hex-tile system. Individual hex-nut-inspired inserts fit into a low-profile circular base, letting you create different color combinations, patterns, and grip layouts without reprinting the entire coaster.

A raised perimeter lip sits above the tile surface to help keep cups, mugs, cans, and tumblers centered. The textured tops add extra grip, while the open hex pattern and optional drainage notches help manage condensation.

Customization Options

Change the base diameter, lip height, tile size, tile clearance, grip texture, bottom grip pattern, and color layout directly in the parametric OpenSCAD file.

Printing

Print the base flat on the build plate. Print the hex tiles separately with the textured side facing upward. PLA works well for everyday use, while PETG is a good option for improved heat and moisture resistance.

A small fit-test model is included so you can check tile clearance before printing the full set.
