I made a configurable LED light strip diffuser in Onshape and wanted to post it here. I don’t have a Fusion 360 account, nor do I know how to use OpenSCAD so I can’t make the project configurable in Makerworld yet, but I will try too as soon as I can.
For now, the best solution I could fine was to make a Google Form to share the Onshape document. I know this is inconvenient so please let me know if there is a better solution.
Anyways for now to get the fully parametric document, please fill out the form with the Email associated with your Onshape account/make an Onshape account and I’ll share the document with you as soon as possible.
I read the community guidelines, and I don’t think the Google Form is against them but if it is I’ll try something different to share the project
The files/Bambu Studio project attached here are like a demo of the system so far to test things out.
Current Features
Summary
- Configurable straight channels and diffusers
- Configurable angled channels and diffusers
- Channel connectors
- Channel endcaps
- Configurable mounting
Variable Meanings
- To start configuring select the part you want to configure in the top selection and edit the parts parameters
- This works in the part studio as is and when inserting a part from the studio into an assembly
- Every measurement is in Millimeter or Degrees
| Part | Variable | Meaning | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Channel | Channel Height | Total channel/diffuser height | |
| Channel | Channel/Diffuser Width | Total channel/diffuser width | |
| Channel | Channel/Diffuser Length | Total channel/diffuser length | |
| Angled Channel | Primary Channel/Diffuser Length | Length of the “Flat” section of the angled channel/diffuser | Should work, still WIP though |
| Angled Channel | Secondary Channel/Diffuser Length | Length of the “Angled” section of the angled channel/diffuser | Should work, still WIP though |
| Angled Channel/Diffuser | Channel/Diffuser Angle | Angle of the angled channel/diffuser | Should work, still WIP though |
| Channel | LED Height | Vertical clearance for LED strip | |
| Channel | LED Width | Horizontal clearance for LED strip | |
| Channel | LED Fitting Gap | Gap to “Fit” the LED strip basically to keep it from falling out | This one is hard to explain you can look at the CAD to understand it better |
| Channel | Bottom Channel Thickness | Excess thickness on the bottom of the channel for mounting | |
| Connector/Endcap | Connector/Endcap Toggle | Toggles configurations between a channel connector and channel endcap (Checked is for the connector unchecked is for the endcap) | |
| Connector | Connector Depth | How far the connector goes into the channel | |
| Diffuser | Diffuser Thickness | How thick the diffuser is | |
| Diffuser | Diffuser Tolerance | How much tolerance there is between the sides of the channel and the sides of a diffuser | |
| Diffuser | Top Diffuser Tolerance | How much tolerance there is between the top of channel and the bottom of the diffuser | |
| Diffuser | Angled Diffuser Split | Splits the angled diffuser into two parts to print them separately | |
| Diffuser | Angled End 1 | Toggles an angled end to the right side of the straight diffuser | |
| Diffuser | Angled End 2 | Toggles an angled end to the left side of the straight diffuser | |
| Channel | Mounting Style | Toggles between the mounting styles for the channel, flush (Default), Velcro (Cutout at bottom of channel) and Screw (Holes with optional counterbore) |
Planned Features
- Convert design to Fusion/OpenSCAD for importing to Makerworld
- More angled channel variants
- More mounting variants
- Print/Filament profiles for parts (Not that big of a deal in my opinion)
- Any feedback
Other Notes
- Make sure to print the diffuser in a relatively light color so it works properly
- Auto-generated supports can be helpful if stuff doesn't print correctly, however I tried to design everything to require minimal to no supports
- Everything is still a work in progress so please let me know what works/doesn’t work and any other feedback you have in the comments or through the Google Form
- I'll try to update things as frequently as I can depending on how interested people are in the project
- Boost me if you want, I want to see how viable Makerworld is for getting store credit and stuff
