💡+ 💥 = 😭

Original and early generation Hue bulbs have glass diffusers, not the plastic that later models have. When you drop them, that goes as well as you'd expect. That happened to me. Originally i used a model I found on Thingiverse, but I wasn't happy with the shape, so I did a new drawing with a more pleasing shape that still prints well.

Instructions

• Remove all glass fragments from your Hue bulb. Get tweezers, you'll need them.
• Print this model using PETG. The flexibility is needed for its snap-on design.
• Firmly push your new diffusor onto the Hue base. Start at a moderate angle, which will help give the width needed to get the lip around the base's edge. Then straighten it up and it'll pop the rest of the way into position.

Printable Variants

I've created a couple of profiles which you can use, depending on your taste:

• Full speed PETG – this should work with any opaque PETG. I recommend white. The emphasis of this design is strength, not full light transmittance. Two sub-variants:
  • Random seam – the first plate has random seam placement, for those who don't like that obvious line down the side of a print. Drawback: The start/stop points of layers look like zits. :(
  • Aligned seam – the second plate has an aligned seam and thus a smoother finish elsewhere. Use this if one side of the bulb will be less visible to the room.
• Glass-like PETG – this is a slow print, tuned for transparent or translucent PETG. By printing very slowly, the extruded filament gets a smoother finish, better light transmission, and looks cooler. But, the light ends up being much more directional than in a white-frosted filament.
  • Same sub-variants as the above – one random seam, one aligned seam

I'm working on a vase mode version as well. I'll update this model when I'm happy with its results.
