Stop printing flat, boring name tags. This fully parametric OpenSCAD generator creates playful 3D keychains with dynamic, alternating letter heights. Perfect for backpack tags, custom keyrings, wedding favors, or personalized luggage markers.

⚙️ Customizer features:

• Alternating 3D depths: Set two distinct extrusion thicknesses (thick_depth and thin_depth) to give your letters a striking, stepped volumetric pattern.
• Multi-color split modes: Do not have an AMS? No problem! Choose Split_2 or Split_3 to physically divide the keychain into distinct sections on your build plate. You can print them in different colors and glue them together!
• Adjustable letter overlap: Dynamic character spacing (letter_spacing) combined with a smart character width algorithm ensures letters overlap just enough to form a single, incredibly strong solid object.
• Integrated keyring loop: Enable the loop and fully customize its size, position, and bridge thickness so it links seamlessly to the first letter.
• Optional backing bar: Turn on enable_backing to add a flat structural bar underneath the letters, maximizing strength for heavy-duty usage.

🧠 Behind the design (For makers & moderators)

To prevent individual letters from printing as detached pieces, the script calculates overlapping positions dynamically using an algorithmic string width function (get_x_pos and char_width_factor).

This maps custom scaling values to wide letters (like ‘M’ or ‘W’) versus narrow letters (like ‘I’ or ‘l’). The dynamic split modes use exact mathematical bounding boxes combined with intersection() cubes to divide the mesh seamlessly into interlocking blocks, ensuring perfect alignment when printed.

🖨️ Print settings:

• Material: PLA is ideal for maximum rigidity, but PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU works beautifully too.
• Layer height: 0.20mm works perfectly.
• Supports: STRICTLY NONE. The model prints completely flat on its back.
• Walls: Set wall loops to 4 to ensure the letters and the keyring loop are completely solid and rigid.
