The Vortex Planter - Swirl design 3D printed pot with wooden tripod legs for desk and shelf
A planter that looks different from every angle. The swirl ridges wrap the whole body, so as you move past it the light keeps shifting and the shadows do half the styling for you. No two viewing angles are the same, which is exactly what you want from something sitting on an open shelf all day.
It rests on three mid-century style tripod legs that lift it off the surface. That little gap does more than it looks: air gets under the pot, water has somewhere to go, and the whole thing reads light and intentional instead of just sitting flat like a block. The legs are a separate part, so you can print them in a contrasting color for that retro feel or match them to the body for a cleaner all-in-one look.
There are drainage holes in the base, so you can plant straight into it with soil, or run it as a cover pot and drop a nursery pot inside. It suits succulents, cacti, small herbs, and it really comes alive with a small bonsai when you want something with a bit more presence.
The body prints clean in vase mode with no supports, so it's a fast and satisfying print. An easy way to lift a desk, a windowsill, or a shelf without much effort.

Specs
- Dimensions: confirm finished height and top diameter in your slicer
- Material used: varies with size and wall count (confirm in your slicer)
- Two parts: body (vase mode) and tripod legs (print flat)
Recommended print settings (Bambu A1)
- Material: PLA for indoor display, or PETG for extra durability and slightly damp use. Silk PLA gives that pearly sheen, matte PLA shows the swirl best
- Layer height: 0.20 mm
- Body: vase / spiralize mode, 0 top layers, walls do the work
- Legs: print flat on the plate, a brim helps them stick
- Supports: none needed for the body
A note on watering: if you're planting directly into soil, the drainage holes let water escape, so stand it on a saucer or tray to catch runoff. Prefer no mess? Use it as a cover pot and keep your plant in its nursery pot inside, then lift that out to water. Either way works.
Printed one? Post a Make, I'd love to see it in your colors and find out what you planted. 🖤
