Flat Print Spinning Comic Stand

 

A spinning comic display that prints flat — no tall vertical prints, no awkward orientation, just an efficient flat layout that still rotates smoothly once assembled.

This is a flat-pack take on the classic spinning comic stand: parts print on a single flat plane, then pressure-fit together into a sturdy, free-spinning display base. It's built for collectors who want to showcase a comic, graded slab, or similar flat collectible with some flair on a shelf or counter, while keeping the print process simple and warp-free.

Because it prints flat, this one needs a larger bed than the standard 256x256mm size — heads up before you queue it up.

⚙️ Bearing Options

Option 1 — 3D Printed Bearing Housing Print your own housing using 8 standard 608 bearings. This part is small but it's the heart of the whole build, so it needs to be printed carefully — see the Printing Notes below before you start. We recommend adding rubber pads to the bottom of these housings. 

 

 

Option 2 — 8" Lazy Susan Bearing Prefer to skip printing the housing? This version is designed to fit an 8" lazy susan bearing instead. Just drop it in and you're spinning. [8" Lazy Susan Bearing (affiliate link placeholder)]

We've tested this with 50 comics loaded in at once and gotten a full 60 seconds of spin time on a single push — the bearings make a bigger difference than you'd think.

🛠️ Printing Notes

  • Bed size: requires a larger-than-standard build plate (over 256x256mm) — check your printer's bed dimensions before slicing
  • Bearing housing (Option 1): small part, but critical to the build — print carefully, and add rubber pads to the bottom once printed
  • Supports: not required
  • Layer height: 0.2mm recommended
  • Infill: 15–20% is plenty for the base
  • Filament: PLA or PETG both work well
  • Hardware: M5x10mm bolts for assembly — do not substitute longer bolts, as they can contact and damage the spinning roller assembly underneath
  • Finishing tip: A heat gun or quick passes with a torch does a great job cleaning up layer lines and bringing out the sheen on silk filaments. Keep it moving — a few seconds per section is all it takes.

🔧 Assembly

  1. Print all parts flat per the layout
  2. Choose your bearing option: print the 608 bearing housing, or prep an 8" lazy susan bearing
  3. Secure parts together using M5x10mm bolts — longer bolts can interfere with the spinning roller assembly
  4. Pressure-fit any remaining pieces for a snug fit
  5. If you want extra hold, apply glue from the bottom only, keeping any residue hidden underneath
  6. Set your comic or slab in place and give it a spin
