Stop throwing away cheap, broken plastic beach toys and garden trowels. This fully parametric OpenSCAD generator allows you to create heavily reinforced shovels tailored exactly to your needs. Whether you need a massive sandbox scoop for the kids, a sharp gardening trowel, or a compact pet food scoop, this tool generates it instantly.
⚙️ Customizer features:
- 3 Handle styles: Choose between a heavy-duty d_grip (perfect for pushing sand), a compact t_grip (ideal for digging dirt), or a simple classic bulb handle for scooping pet food.
- Custom text engraving: Add your child's name, a warning label, or a fun logo directly onto the shaft. The algorithm automatically rotates and centers the text perfectly along the length of the handle.
- Ergonomic flat-bottom design: To make the handle incredibly strong and easy to print without supports, use the grip_flatten_factor slider. This mathematically flattens the bottom of the grip so it adheres massively to the build plate.
- Fully scalable blade: Adjust the width, length, and depth of the scoop independently. The code dynamically calculates the wall thicknesses so the blade remains structural.
- Optimized digging bevel: The generator automatically cuts a sharp 32-degree bevel into the front of the scoop, giving it a true leading edge for cutting into hard dirt or wet sand.
🧠 Behind the design (For makers & moderators)
To ensure optimal printability and massive structural integrity, this model is designed to print completely flat on its back.
The shovel scoop is generated using a nested double-hull operation. First, the outer shell is created by hulling 8 spheres together. Then, a slightly smaller internal shell is generated and subtracted. This creates mathematically uniform wall thicknesses (wall_thickness) everywhere.
However, printing a heavy round cylinder handle flat on a print bed usually results in poor adhesion. To solve this, a massive boolean difference (cube([1000, 1000, 10 + 1.2])) slices exactly 1.2mm off the entire bottom profile of the shovel. This gives the massive scoop back and the round handle a perfectly flat surface to adhere to the PEI sheet, eliminating the need for any messy support structures or rafts.
🖨️ Print settings:
- Material: PETG or ASA. PLA is very brittle and will snap if used for heavy digging. PETG provides the perfect amount of flex and massive impact resistance.
- Layer height: 0.20mm or 0.28mm for fast, structural prints.
- Supports: STRICTLY NONE. The entire model prints flat on its back.
- Walls: Set wall loops to 4 or 5! This is the secret to a strong shovel. Do not rely on infill for strength; extra outer perimeters make the handle virtually indestructible.
