I designed this custom 3D-printed door lockset with an integrated locking mechanism for confined spaces where a traditional door handle would protrude too much. The lockset uses a minimal-profile design to save space while remaining functional and easy to use. To lock the door, simply pull the paracord side to side to engage the deadbolt mechanism. The same paracord also works as a convenient pull tab for closing the door.

A dedicated groove allows the paracord to tuck neatly into place, while the optional rosette cover conceals the internal components for a clean, streamlined finish.

What started as a functional space-saving solution also became a playful design feature. The final handle had such a creative and unique look that we 3D-printed multiple versions for every door.
 

Designed for interior doors, typically 35 mm thick, with a standard 2 1/8" / 54 mm hole opening.

Required Hardware:

• 4 × 8×3 mm magnets
• Or 12 × 8×3 mm magnets if you also want to install the rosette covers on both sides
• A small piece of paracord, or any similar rope with comparable thickness
• 2 × screws for the deadbolt faceplate, if you do not already have existing screws

Rosette Cover Notes:

Decide whether you want to install the rosette covers.

The rosette covers are optional. Installing them allows the paracord to be tucked neatly inside the groove, giving the handle a cleaner and more minimal look.

If you choose to install the covers, you will need 4 additional 8×3 mm magnets per side.

When printing the rosette, the print profile includes a pause so you can insert the magnets into the model.

If you do not plan to use the covers, you can skip the pause during printing and continue the print without adding the extra cover magnets.

Deadbolt Notes:

The deadbolt is reinforced with thicker walls and higher-density infill for better strength and durability. This uses more material, but helps make the part more robust.

If you do not need the extra strength, you can reduce the infill percentage and wall thickness to save material and print time.

Depending on your door opening, the deadbolt may need a slightly different geometry. If you need a custom shape or adjustment, feel free to leave a comment.

Deadbolt Faceplate Notes:

Depending on your door frame opening, the deadbolt faceplate may also need a slightly different geometry.

If you need a custom faceplate shape, feel free to leave a comment.

Installation:

1. Install the magnets and make sure the rosette (1) pieces snap together properly.
2. Snap the rosettes (1) together, making sure the deadbolt groove is horizontal.
3. Slide in the deadbolt (2). The hole on the deadbolt should be on the right side, since the paracord will be threaded through that hole.
4. Check the deadbolt movement by moving the eyelet from the leftmost position to the rightmost position.
   • In the leftmost position, the deadbolt should slide fully into the door frame.
   • In the rightmost position, the deadbolt should fully retract back inside the door.
5. Thread the paracord through the deadbolt hole and tie a loop knot at the end.
6. Close the door and test the locking motion to make sure everything fits and moves smoothly.
7. Screw in the deadbolt faceplate (3).
8. When not in use, tuck the paracord into the groove and snap on the cover for a clean, minimal look.
9. Done! Enjoy your new 3D-printed door lockset.
