Modelo 3D Sixty — Geometric Construction Set por ISA no MakerWorld

Descrição

Sixty allows you to assemble a truncated icosahedron — a polyhedron with a remarkably sphere-like shape.

The construction system is based on identical node modules connected with small friction-fit pins. An additional edge extension piece is included, allowing larger structures to be built while preserving the original geometry.

While assembling the truncated icosahedron is the most obvious starting point, Sixty is not limited to a single shape. Like many construction systems, it can be used to explore geometry, create custom structures, and experiment with different forms.

One interesting challenge is to build flat grids and planar arrangements using components originally designed for curved geometry.

Depending on the chosen configuration, the resulting structures can serve as decorative objects, geometric sculptures, open-frame containers, or even become part of larger projects such as lamps and light fixtures. Even a handful of modules can be combined into small geometric ornaments resembling abstract amulets or pendants.

Included Components

  • Node modules
  • Connection pins
  • Edge extension pieces
  • Parametric edge extension model

A complete truncated icosahedron requires:

  • 60 node modules
  • 90 connection pins

Print Profile

The print profile includes the following plates:

  • Individual plates for single-part printing: one node module, one connection pin, one edge extension piece
  • Batch plates for sequential printing: 6 node modules, 9 connection pins, 9 edge extension pieces

Users with larger build plates can fit more parts per print, but it is still recommended to keep the print mode set to "sequential" (one at a time) for best results.

Notes

The three arms of each node module are not identical. One arm — the one facing the build plate during printing — differs slightly from the other two. This should be taken into account when assembling the truncated icosahedron and determining the correct orientation of modules within the structure.

Pins and sockets are designed for a tight friction fit. Removing a pin may require a small amount of force and occasionally a simple tool such as pliers, but a tighter fit is necessary to ensure structural stability.

The additional file contains a parametric version of the edge extension piece, allowing you to generate custom lengths for larger assemblies or your own experiments.

It is recommended to print a small test set first to verify fit and compatibility on your printer. Once confirmed, multiple parts can be printed simultaneously. For best surface quality, sequential printing is recommended whenever possible.

The parts were tested in standard PLA on a textured build plate. Under the provided settings they print without a brim, but if adhesion is uncertain, an outer brim can be enabled as an additional precaution.
