VentForge - Parametric Vent Grille Generator
Version: 1.0.1
VentForge is a parametric customizer for creating printable ventilation grille systems with a wall insert, removable rain louver front, and optional insect protection.
It is designed as a practical multi-part vent: the base can be screwed or glued into the wall opening, the printed mesh insert seats on an internal support inside the base/wall insert, and the front grille slips on as a removable rain louver cover.

Recommended Use
Start by measuring the real wall opening. Choose rectangular or round opening mode first. For rectangular openings, set the wall opening width and height, then choose whether the vent should keep exact custom dimensions or automatically become horizontal or vertical. For round pipe-style openings, set the round opening diameter. Then adjust the front frame width, wall insert depth, mesh mode, and louver settings. By default, the base flange follows the front outside size, so reducing or increasing the front frame keeps the base and front aligned.
The printed mesh hole size defaults to 2.0 mm for better airflow and faster default prints. For smaller insects, reduce the printed mesh hole size, but remember that small printed mesh holes reduce airflow and increase print time. The printed mesh strand width defaults to 1.2 mm and can be reduced to 0.4 mm for finer decorative meshes.
The mesh cassette clearance is applied per side. The default 0.4 mm clearance reduces the printed mesh cassette by 0.8 mm in both full width and full height.
The internal support ramp or ledge remains connected to the wall insert and sits below the mesh cassette. It supports the cassette but does not define the cassette's outer fit size.
The printed mesh patterns are generated with an internal rim and full-cell spacing, so square, diamond, slit, and crosshatch meshes avoid tiny leftover edge fragments. Diamond grid uses dense diamond-shaped holes, crosshatch uses wider crossing diagonal ribs, and slit mesh includes multiple cross braces for better stiffness. Orientation slits follow the selected horizontal or vertical layout, while vertical and horizontal slit modes stay manual. The solid mesh pattern creates a full thin insert that can be turned into a slicer-generated mesh by using sparse infill and disabling top and bottom shells.
For most first prints, use no mesh or the printed mesh insert. The real mesh holder is experimental: it may be useful for clamping a piece of standard mosquito mesh between the holder and clamp frame, but it should be test printed before relying on it for a final installation.
The external frame shape can be changed independently from the wall opening. Use the default rectangle with rounded corner style for a clean utility vent, or switch to oval, circle, hexagon, octagon, or petal-style flower for a different front style. Rectangular frames can use sharp, rounded, or chamfered corners with one shared corner size. Circle frame mode expands the outside diameter enough to keep rectangular openings inside the circular flange.
Print Notes
The default output is a print layout with separate parts placed flat on the bed. Individual part output modes also use print-ready orientation, while assembly preview keeps the mounted orientation for fit inspection. Enable exploded assembly preview to separate the stacked parts along the mounting axis.
The generator flips the base, front grille, printed mesh, and experimental real mesh holder parts in print modes so they are bed-ready. Assembly preview intentionally keeps the mounted orientation. The default internal mesh support uses a support-free 45-degree ramp for that direction. If you prefer a regular shelf and do not mind support material, switch the mesh support mode to flat ledge. Depending on your printer, material, and cooling, you may want to test a smaller sample first. If fit is too tight, increase the fit clearances before printing a full-size vent.
