Stop struggling with weak metal wire clips that bend out of shape or fail to hold thick stacks of documents. This fully parametric OpenSCAD generator allows you to create the exact paperclip you need. Whether you want a tiny clip for a single page, a heavy-duty binder clip, a flat bookmark, or a comical giant paperclip, this tool does it all effortlessly.
⚙️ Customizer features:
- Instant presets: Choose from 6 optimized templates (Standard, Heavy Duty, Giant, Bookmark, etc.) or input your exact custom length, width, and wire thickness.
- Smart wire profiles: Select between a traditional rounded wire profile or a modern flat extruded profile.
- Flat bed surface: Enable flat_bottom to mathematically slice the bottom half of the clip. This guarantees massive bed adhesion and allows the clip to sit completely flush against your paper.
- Anti-slip grip ridges: Add optional grip_ridges to create microscopic bumps along the straight sections. This dramatically increases friction on slippery paper.
- Custom end caps: Choose how the wire ends finish. Options include smooth round tips, clean flat cuts, or easy-to-slide angled tips that guide paper in smoothly.
🧠 Behind the design (For makers & moderators)
To ensure a flawless mesh and maximum printability without supports, this generator does not rely on slow Minkowski operations. For the rounded 3D profile, it dynamically constructs the shape using mathematically aligned toruses and cylinders.
When the flat bed surface option is enabled, a smart boolean intersection dynamically slices exactly the bottom radius of the clip. This provides a massive first-layer surface area, ensuring the thin plastic strands do not warp or detach from the build plate. The grip ridges are generated via a loop function that spaces tiny cylindrical cuts perfectly along the straight sections of the clip, keeping the final file clean and manifold.
🖨️ Print settings:
- Material: PLA or PETG. PETG is highly recommended if you want the clip to flex repeatedly without snapping!
- Layer height: 0.12mm or 0.16mm is ideal for small clips. For the giant preset, 0.20mm works beautifully.
- Supports: STRICTLY NONE. The model prints completely flat on the bed.
- Walls: Set wall loops to a high number so the wire is printed completely solid. This gives the clip its maximum spring tension.
