For my homelab, I came up with a simple Raspberry Pi Zero 2 + Waveshare Ethernet HAT to run PiHole. Since most Raspberry Pi Zero cases are made for the bare Raspberry, I decided to design my own case for this specific combination.
I left some space below the solder dots of the GPIO pins. I also made 4 holes for screws/bolts/stand-offs to be friction-fitted in. They don't have threads, but at that size, you don't need them either.
Assembly:
- Assemble the Raspberry + Waveshare Ethernet HAT as instructed
- Optionally: use 2 to 4 stand-off screws to support the HAT
- Do NOT plug in the USB bridge yet
- Do NOT put in the SD card yet
- Put the assembled Pi in the case and check if all ports align
- Plug in the USB bridge that comes with the Ethernet HAT
- Put the SD card in the Pi
- Put the top cover on the case
- If it doesn't go in smoothy, you might have to sand the little dots on the inside of the case a bit.
Note: You can easily adjust the size of the ports in case they don't line up correctly. The walls should be thin enough to be cut with a sharp knife.
