A simple but surprisingly satisfying magnetic fidget made from just two printed plates and 16 embedded magnets.
Each plate contains 8× 6×3mm neodymium magnets that are fully enclosed in the print. As the two halves slide past each other, the magnets create a smooth, tactile motion with distinct detents and a satisfying snap.

Hardware Required
- 16 × 6×3mm neodymium magnets
- 8 magnets per plate
Magnet Installation
The easiest way to get the polarity correct is:
- Start with a full stack of magnets.
- Insert magnets into the first part one at a time not flipping the magnets.
- Once the first plate is filled, flip the entire remaining magnet stack over.
- Insert the magnets from the flipped stack into the second part, again without changing their orientation.
This automatically makes the two halves complementary, giving the fidget its smooth sliding action and satisfying magnetic feel.
Assembly
- Pause the print when prompted (or use your slicer's magnet pause feature).
- Insert the magnets following the instructions above.
- Resume printing to fully enclose the magnets.
- Snap the two halves together and start sliding!
It's a quick print, but one that's surprisingly addictive to play with and a great demonstration of what's possible with embedded magnets in 3D prints.
