# Parametric Desk Cable Grommet Reducer

First prototype for a parametric split desk cable grommet reducer.

## What It Is

This is an FDM-printable split round insert for reducing an oversized or non-standard round desk cable hole. The model uses two mirrored halves, a top flange, a drop-in reducer body, shallow friction ribs, and one cable pass-through slot.

The default setup targets a 60 mm desk hole with a 59.2 mm reducer body, a 72 mm flange, and a 22 mm central cable opening.

- Not insulation
- Not strain relief
- Not a cable clamp
- Not a fire barrier
- Not a load-bearing part
- Not intended for vehicle, medical, child-safety, or safety-critical use

## Intended Use

Indoor desk cable routing and dry desk organization only. The part is intended to improve the look and fit of a cable pass-through opening, not to hold, protect, anchor, or certify cables.

## Before Printing

Measure:

- Desk hole diameter
- Cable bundle width
- Largest cable connector or cable diameter that must pass through the center opening
- Available desk-hole depth

Adjust the OpenSCAD parameters before export if your desk opening differs from the defaults.

## Recommended Print Settings

- PLA or PETG
- 0.4 mm nozzle
- 0.2 mm layer height
- 3 walls
- 4 top layers
- 4 bottom layers
- 15-20% infill
- No supports
- Optional brim if the flange edges lift

Print with the flange face on the build plate. The reducer body and ribs print upward from the flange.

Use `part_mode = "both"` for a printable pair preview, or export `left` and `right` separately if preferred.

## Limitations

- Fit depends on accurate measurement of the desk hole.
- Friction ribs are intentionally shallow and non-locking.
- The model does not claim compatibility with any specific desk or furniture system.
- The cable slot guides cables only and should not pinch or retain them.
- First full-size fit testing is still required.
