Descrição
Standy is an ultra-slim kickstand for the Steam Deck that mounts to the two stock backplate screws and all but disappears when closed. The whole stack is just 6.4mm tall, the leg snaps shut magnetically, and the hinge pin is just a piece of 1.75mm filament.
Features
- Slim profile — 6.4mm total when closed, with a continuous S-curve "melt" flowing the hinge into both plates. No bolted-on look.
- Magnetic closure — four 6×1mm discs hold the leg flat against the deck with a satisfying snap.
- Friction hinge with detents — a 9-tooth ratchet gives the swing real texture, with detents at closed and 40°.
- 70° hard stop — squared heel bosses inside the teardrop knuckles land flat on the base plate, so the leg physically cannot fold past 70°. Lean on it.
- No-hardware hinge — the pin is ~56mm of your own filament, mushroomed at the ends with a lighter. Teardrop bores print support-free.
- Flush everything — screw heads sink fully into the base, edges are rounded, the nail notch is recessed.
What You Need
- 4× neodymium disc magnets, 6mm × 1mm (cheap multipacks work fine)
- ~60mm of 1.75mm filament for the hinge pin
- CA glue (for the magnets)
- The 2 stock backplate screws you remove (or slightly longer M screws if you want extra bite — the plate uses ~1mm of thread depth)
Printing
- 2 parts, both print flat with zero supports
- PLA works great; tested at 0.08mm layers for the smoothest curves, 0.12–0.16 is fine too
- No brim needed, standard walls/infill
Assembly
- Drop the blade's barrels between the base knuckles and slide the filament pin through.
- Trim the pin flush-ish, then mushroom each end with a quick tap of a lighter flame so it can't walk out.
- Magnet polarity trick: stack all four magnets, sharpie one face of the stack, then glue them marks-up in the base pockets and marks-down in the blade pockets. They'll always attract.
- Remove the two backplate screws, set the base over the holes, and reuse the screws through the counterbores.
Notes
- Designed around a 54mm screw spacing — verify against your backplate before printing, and check the OpenSCAD source if yours differs.
- The full parametric OpenSCAD file is included: stop angle, ratchet tooth count, magnet sizes, and the S-curve geometry are all editable parameters.
- The leg's first touch on the hard wall is at ~70° and it firms up fully by ~72°, intentionally matching the feel of injection-molded stands.
