🌾 Western Style Windmill (H2S Giant Edition) - Wall & Post Mount
This is a fully upscaled, standalone remix of the classic Western Style Windmill originally designed by MrHegger.
I have drastically scaled up every single component of the project to take full advantage of large-format machines. The entire assembly has been optimized so all parts fit beautifully together on a single Bambu Lab H2S (340 x 320 x 340) build plate!
⚠️ CRITICAL NOTE: Because the entire model has been resized larger, none of the original parts from MrHegger’s model will fit this version. If you want to build this giant edition, you must print the files provided here on this page.
🪵 The Wall/Post Mount Upgrade
In addition to making the entire windmill bigger and more robust, I have completely redesigned the mounting system. Instead of staking it into a garden bed, this version includes a built-in wall/post screw-on attachment 2x6mm holes so you can easily mount your massive windmill to a fence, deck post, or exterior wall.
🖨️ Printing & Layout
- One-Plate Print: Every single piece has been meticulously arranged to print without any supports on a single large-format build plate. Use the provided reference picture for the ideal bed arrangement.
- Adhesion Tip: Because the tail fin has been scaled up significantly, it is tall and thin. You must use a brim on fin to keep it securely adhered to the bed and prevent it from tipping over mid-print.
- Material Recommendation: Since this is meant to live outside, PETG or ASA is highly recommended for longevity against UV rays and weather. (The Black I used is a Generic ASA Black found on Amazon).
🔧 Assembly & Mounting
- Clip-Together Design: Despite being a giant version, the parts still snap together natively just like the original design. Use the provided animation/reference layout for guidance.
- Friction Reduction: I highly recommend applying a little bit of mechanical grease or silicone lubricant to the axle inside the hub and the mounting shaft to lower friction and prevent wear on the plastic over time.
- Mounting: Use standard wood or drywall screws to attach the custom mounting bracket to your post or wall, then drop your completed windmill's vertical shaft right into place.
🙏 Credits
A massive thank you to MrHegger for the brilliant original design, clever mechanics, and assembly concepts that made this upscaled remix possible!
I hope you enjoy this giant, wall-mounted version. Please leave a comment and share your makes if you print one!
