🧮 The Ultimate Customizable Math Splitting Plate!

Make math and partitioning visual and hands-on for young learners! This parametric splitting plate (also known as a ‘splitsbordje’ in Dutch) is a perfect educational tool for elementary schools, kindergartens, and homeschooling to practice number sense, subtraction, and basic divisions.

Children place a number or dot card in the large top compartment, and then distribute the correct number of marbles, counters, beads, or blocks into the two smaller compartments below to visually split the number.

⚙️ Customizer Features:

  • Fully Parametric: Easily change the diameter, wall thickness, and depth of the plate via the MakerWorld Customizer to match your specific counting tools or cards.
  • Scoopable Corners (inner_corner_radius): The inside corners of the compartments are fully rounded. This ensures small children’s hands can scoop blocks, beads, or counters out of the compartments effortlessly and without frustration.
  • Rounded Outer Rims (rim_rounding_radius): The sharp 90-degree corners at the top of the outer wall are fully smoothed with a flowing round. This gives the plate an exceptionally premium look and ensures it is comfortable to hold.
  • Sliding Divider (divider_offset_y): Adjust the position of the horizontal partition to make the top compartment larger or smaller, tailored to the dimensions of your own flashcards.
  • Engraved Bottom Text: You can engrave custom text (such as a classroom name, school name, or the child’s name) directly onto the bottom of the plate. The text is automatically mirrored, so it reads perfectly face-down after printing.

 

🧠 Behind the Design (For Makers & Moderators)

To ensure a flawless mesh and maximum rendering performance, this generator does not use the extremely slow and error-prone 3D minkowski operations in OpenSCAD. Instead, the profile of the plate is mathematically calculated in 2D and then converted to a perfectly round shape with smooth corners using rotate_extrude.

The walls are built from overlapping 3D geometries with cylindrically rounded tops. Using a CSG intersection (intersection), the partition walls are trimmed exactly to the inner wall and bottom of the dish. This results in a 100% manifold 3D model with zero faulty faces or self-intersecting geometries, ensuring a perfect slicer experience.

 

🖨️ Print Settings:

  • Material: PLA or PETG
  • Layer Height: 0.20mm works perfectly and prints nice and fast.
  • Supports: STRICTLY NONE. All angles and rounded top edges build up gradually and require no support.
  • Infill: 10% to 15% (Gyroid) is plenty for a solid bottom.
  • Walls: Use at least 2 walls.
