🪡 Fully Parametric Square & Rectangle Cross Stitch Plate Generator
Welcome! This is a fully parametric, customizable cross-stitch canvas generator designed to let you create custom-sized square or rectangular plates for embroidery, cross-stitch, or pixel art.
Simply set the X and Y grid sizes to be equal for a perfect square, or make them different to generate any custom rectangle! The script dynamically recalculates the outer plate dimensions, adds smooth premium fillets, and allows you to add bevels to the stitching holes so your thread never frays.
⚡ MakerLab Customizer Compatible! You don't need to install OpenSCAD. Just click "Customize" right here on MakerWorld, adjust the sliders to choose your grid size (number of holes) and dimensions, and generate your custom STL in seconds!
✨ Premium Features
- Square or Rectangle Support: Choose equal values for X and Y holes to get a perfect square, or different values to generate custom rectangles.
- Dynamic Sizing: Input the exact number of holes you want along the X and Y axes; the plate calculates the perfect margins automatically!
- Optional Hole Bevels: Includes optional top and bottom bevels for every hole. This makes needle threading extremely easy and prevents sharp edges from fraying your embroidery floss.
- Ergonomic Rounded Edges: Features vertical corner rounding and horizontal top/bottom edge fillets so the plate feels smooth and comfortable in your hands.
- Customizer-Friendly: Fully detailed parameters with custom ranges, steps, and default values.
🎛️ Customizer Options & Defaults
Here are the parameters you can tweak to create your perfect canvas:
🟩 1. Grid Size (Number of Holes)
- holes_x (Default: 15): Number of stitch holes along the X-axis.
- holes_y (Default: 10): Number of stitch holes along the Y-axis. (Tip: Set X and Y equal for a perfect square, or different for a rectangle!)
📐 2. Base Plate Dimensions
- rect_height (Default: 3.0 mm): Plate thickness (Z-axis). Thicknesses between 2.0mm and 3.0mm are ideal for standard threads.
- corner_radius (Default: 4 mm): Vertical corner rounding. Set to 0 for sharp rectangular corners.
- edge_fillet (Default: 1.0 mm): Smooth rounding for the top and bottom outer edges. Set to 0 for flat, sharp edges.
- center_plate (Default: True): Centers the model at origin [0, 0], which is highly recommended for seamless 3D printing.
🕸️ 3. Cross Stitch Grid Settings
- hole_diameter (Default: 2.0 mm): The size of the stitch holes. 2.0mm fits standard tapestry needles beautifully.
- hole_pitch (Default: 3.0 mm): The distance from the center of one hole to the next.
- padding (Default: 5.0 mm): The border margin width between the plate outer edge and the first row of holes.
🪡 4. Hole Bevels (Premium Threading Finish)
- enable_hole_bevels (Default: False): Enables or disables the smooth chamfer on the holes. Turn this on if you want beveled entries to make needle threading easier!
- bevel_depth (Default: 0.4 mm): The depth of the hole bevel/countersink.
- bevel_angle (Default: 45°): The angle of the bevel.
🖥️ 5. Rendering Quality
- circle_resolution (Default: 64): Controls the smoothness of the circular stitch holes.
- fillet_resolution (Default: 32): Controls the smoothness of the edge fillet sphere.
🖨️ Recommended Print Settings
For the absolute best visual results, smooth thread pathing, and structural integrity, please use the following settings in your slicer:
- Wall Generator: Change from Classic to Arachne. This ensures the thin walls around the stitch holes are printed perfectly and smoothly without gaps.
- Top/Bottom Surface Pattern: Set to Concentric. This creates a beautiful circular print pattern centered around your stitch holes, matching the canvas grid perfectly!
- Internal Solid Infill Pattern: Set to Concentric (found under the Strength menu) to align perfectly with the concentric outer patterns and ensure robust, beautiful structural reinforcement around every hole.
- Layer Height: 0.16mm or 0.20mm work beautifully. If you have fine fillets, 0.12mm or 0.16mm will make them look injection-molded.
- Material: PLA works perfectly for standard rigid plates. If you want a slightly flexible canvas, try PETG!
