Modular Shelf Insert for IKEA Billy, Display Riser

Modular shelf insert designed for IKEA Billy bookcases.

This model creates an extra display/storage level inside a Billy shelf while keeping the structure lightweight with a hex-grid shelf pattern. It is useful for displaying small figures, miniatures, collectibles, craft supplies, small boxes, jars, or other lightweight items.

The design is made from separate printable parts to get a full-width shelf riser:

2× side elements
3× middle elements
8× leg links/connectors

The side and middle shelf elements are joined together using the small link pieces, which attach around the legs and help keep the full insert aligned. This makes the model easier to print on smaller build plates while still creating a wider shelf insert after assembly.

The hex-grid pattern reduces material use and gives the shelf a clean, modern look. The tall legs leave usable space underneath, so the insert works well as a compact riser inside a bookcase or cabinet.

Recommended use: lightweight display and organization inside an IKEA Billy or similarly sized shelf. Please check the dimensions of your own shelf before printing.

Printing notes:

Print 2 side elements, 3 middle elements, and 8 links for one complete insert. Assembly should be done gently so the links can slide into place without stressing the legs.
