Modelo 3D Parametric Triangular Seed Spacing Tool por GwynYrAthro no MakerWorld

Descrição

Parametric Triangular Seed Spacing Tool

A tool for creating perfect rows of holes for planting seeds in a hexagonal pattern. Unlike standard square grids, this tool uses an equilateral triangle (hexagonal) layout, which allows you to fit more plants in the same area while maintaining precise distance between plants. The girder-style frame is lightweight, uses minimal filament, and features rounded internal corners to prevent soil buildup and provide maximum structural rigidity.

Built with OpenSCAD 2026.1.14 and VS Code + GitHub Copilot.

Configurable Parameters

  • Print bed size: the openSCAD code includes an algorithm to determine the optimal tool size, based on your printer bed size.
  • Spacing: choose how far apart the pegs should be based on the recommendations for your seeds (refer to seed packet)
  • Pegs: control the depth, thickness, and tapering of your pegs to optimise seed placement
  • And more: configure the thickness and structure of the tool base

How to use the tool

  1. Ensure your soil is loose, weed-free, and level. If the soil is very dry or compacted, give it a light watering and a quick rake-over first. This allows the tapered pegs to enter and exit the soil cleanly without collapsing the holes.
  2. Place the tool on the soil surface. Press down firmly and evenly on the girder frame until the base is flush with the ground. The conical tips and tapered shafts are designed to "dib" even holes for your seeds. Pull the tool straight up to avoid blurring the edges of the holes.
  3. If you need to extend the row, lift the tool and move it across until the first set of pegs line up with the last set of holes, then repeat step #2.
  4. If you need more rows, rotate the tool 180°, line up the bottom row of pegs with the top row of holes, then repeat step #2.
  5. Repeat steps #3 and #4 until you have covered the entire planting area.
  6. When you have dibbed all the required holes, drop one or two seeds into each hole, then simply brush the surface of the soil lightly to fill the holes.

Note: Not all seeds will germinate, so for more consistent results, drop two seeds in each hole and thin the plants out when they start sprouting.
