Test Print Orientation and Flexibility Samples 0.6-2.0mm
Ever wondered how much a part's strength, flexibility, and surface texture change just by rotating it in your slicer?
This project provides you a quick way to print these samples.
It prints 4 distinct print orientations across a gradient of 8 different thicknesses (from 0.6 mm up to a rigid 2.0 mm in 0.2 mm steps).
It's the perfect reference board to physically feel how orientation impact your designs.
What this matrix demonstrates:
- Flat: Maximum flexibility, smooth top/bottom finishes, highest tensile strength along the length.
- Vertical Tall: High rigidity but extremely brittle Z-axis layer bonding.
- Verital Short (Long-Edge): Outstanding structural depth and clean vertical wall perimeter finishes.
- 45° Angle: The classic trick for balancing diagonal grain strength and smooth surface gradients.
Print Settings & Tips:
- Bed Adhesion: I added brim for the tall vertical columns so the motion of the bed doesn't shake them loose.
- Supports: I added support to the 45 degrees diagonal orientation (to increase chances of a successful print).
- Identification:
- Flat: no holes/cuts
- Vertical Tall: retangular cut on the edge.
- Vertical Short : circle cut on the edge.
- 45° Angle : circle hole/cut in the middle.
