The "Spring-Arch" Doorstop
Stop doors more effectively with the Spring-Arch Doorstop, a 3D-printed solution that uses geometry rather than just friction. Unlike solid wedges, this design features an engineered arch on the underside that compresses as it's wedged, creating constant upward pressure to lock the door in place.
Key Design Features
- Active Compression: The arched base acts as a built-in spring, generating a "clamping" force between the floor and the door bottom.
- Optimised for TPU: Designed specifically to take advantage of the flexibility and high-friction properties of TPU filaments.
- Integrated Pull-Lip: A steep rear curve allows for easy placement and removal without the need to bend down.
- Variable Grip: The more you push, the more the arch flattens, increasing the surface area in contact with the floor for maximum stopping power.
Recommended Print Settings
- Material: TPU (95A or 98A) is strongly recommended for the best balance of grip and spring tension.
- Note: Can be printed in PETG for a stiffer spring effect on carpets, but TPU is superior for hard floors.
- Walls: 3-4 perimeters to ensure the "spring" doesn't snap under heavy doors.
- Infill: 15-25% (Gyroid). Adjusting your infill density will directly change the "hardness" of the spring.
- Layer Height: 0.2mm for a smooth, consistent finish.
Enhance Your Grip
If you are printing in a harder material like PETG or if you have extremely polished floors, adding a small amount of extra friction can help.
- Gorilla Tape Non-Slip: A small strip of this on the bottom of a PETG print will mimic the grip of TPU.
- Self-Adhesive Rubber Pads: Perfect for the flat "feet" of the arch to prevent sliding on tile or marble.
