This is an very nice modular lightbox that has Interlocking parts, no screws required. Designed using SolidWorks. I'm happy with the way it turned out
I needed a modular light box that was not a cube (like most I've seen on models sites) for Mother's Day gifts for my wife, all our daughters, and daughter's in law. I needed from 2-5 places for custom panels for differing family sizes…and a cube would keep two or more panels facing backward and not visible from a front view.
Custom messages can be extruded through the front panel piece. The front panels slide in and out of the lightbox so the panel designs/messages or lithophanes (149mmx149mm) can be changed out over time or to change the view periodically without having to print the box parts over again. If a new box section is desired, it can be easily separated and a new section added.
This design works well for 2-5 base sections. For a full 180 degree box, there are five sections. I used one BasePanel-Center, two BasePanel-CenterWithLamp, and one each BasePanel-LeftOutside and -RightOutside. This put two lamps inside to make sure the lighting was consistent around the half circle. All others work nicely with just one lamp.
Parts
There is only one top piece and one front panel piece that are used in all modules
There are three modules with multiple pieces that are used to make lightboxes with 2 to 5 modules:
- Left edge is the outermost left module regardless of how many modules are in the whole lightbox
- There is a BasePanel-LeftOutside
- a PanelConnector-Half-LeftEdge
- a BasePanel-LeftEdge and
- an OutsideWall-Left&RightEdges
- Right edge is the outermost right module regardless of how many modules are in the whole lightbox
- There is a BasePanel-RightOutside
- a PanelConnector-Half-RightEdge
- a BasePanel-RightEdge and
- an OutsideWall-Left&RightEdges
- There are two center base panels used as described in the previous paragraph…one with a lamp holder and one without
- There is also a PanelConnector-Full-CenterSections - Locking that goes between the front panels between the modules
The lamp holder in the center base piece fits the…

Ideally, use black filament for the lowest translucence through the box parts. However, other colors could be used for different color glows for the body of the box and around the front panels

- 0.20mm, 2 walls, 15% infill
Note: for the front panels where I wanted to fill the extrusions with colored resin, I printed the first base layers in transparent filament for 0.40mm and then black above that. I filled the open extruded letters with resin to add color
