Modular Hex Paint Brush Rack Gridfinity

This model is a 16mm hex patterned brush storage rack. It was designed around a 2x4GFU footprint to work with Gridfinity, but I have smooth-bottomed NOGRID variants too!

I made this model for a modular, compact, and secure way to store bulk paintbrushes. I also find myself using it for pencils, pens, misc tools, etc. It's built with everybody's favorite pattern, hexes. I used 16mm hexes, which are big enough to fit a sharpie in with some comfortable wiggle room. The patterned hexes carry through to make small cutouts in the bottom of the rack.

The rack has a removable tab aligned lid that can be optionally magnetized with 6x2mm magnets. I glued mine on, then dropped something in it that I couldn't get out, so magnets it is!

I made optional height spacer can be added to customize the height for some really tall or heavy items. There are magnet slots in both the top and bottom of these too! You can add as many as you want for infinite height scaling- each spacer adds approx 25mm. Once you figure out a good height, I'd recommend gluing the spacer(s) into the rack bottom for the best results. Then, put the optional magnets in the highest section remaining if you want the lid magnetized.

This model is part of my collection of 3D printed mini painting stuff, Paintfinity. 

For all of my models in this collection, P1S and A1MINI sized prebuilt profiles are provided. No supports are used on anything in the collection, and it's been optimized for a 0.4mm nozzle with tuned wall thicknesses throughout.

I use 2 walls, 0.2mm height, 10% grid infill print settings for my included plate profiles. Lower infill percent with Gyroid or Lightning also work, but grid at 10% seems to always give me a great top surface quality for a little extra material+time.

Paintfinity is my solo run passion project with the goal of making miniature painting more accessible, efficient, and ergonomic. I try to design models that work together to solve as many common pain points as possible. I've commission painted full time for the last 10 years, with an emphasis on large projects and armies. I've learned that there are a lot of small things that add up to a much smoother experience with these type of projects. These small optimizations can trickle down to benefit everything else you paint too!

I built my models around the standard 42mm Gridfinity unit with pockets for 6x2mm magnets. I made smooth-bottom NOGRID variants too! Gridfinity is an open source system originally created by Zach Freedman, make sure to check out Zach's other work!

61 Unique Models and 48 Variants for a total of 109 individual modeled objects!
