ThreadPlay – A 3D Printable Learning Toy for Hands-On Discovery

ThreadPlay is a 3D printable educational toy designed to help children develop fine motor skills through simple, hands-on play.

Each bolt features a unique head shape and matching nut, encouraging kids to explore shape recognition, coordination, and problem-solving. The large format makes the parts easy to grip and manipulate, making it ideal for toddlers and early learners.

The model is split into three parts: Bolt head, Threaded shaft, Locking pin

This modular design allows for easy multi-color printing without requiring a multi-material setup. Each part can be printed separately and assembled afterward, making it simple to create visually engaging combinations.

Assembly:

Start by inserting the locking pin into the threaded shaft. It is not necessary to push it in completely, as a full insertion can be difficult at this stage. Then align the shaft with the bolt head and press firmly. This final step will fully seat the pin and lock all parts together securely.

Printing Recommendations:

• Layer height: 0.2 mm
• Supports: none
• Walls / perimeters:
  • 2 perimeters for head and shaft
  • 3 perimeters for the pin (for extra strength)
• Infill: 15% is sufficient
• Infill pattern : Cubic
• Material: PLA
