| 24 May 2026 [v20260524] | Revised puck cap so the outer corners don't touch the Steam controller. The previous version could cause the puck pins to not fully make contact. |
| 22 May 2026 [v20260522] | Added a puck cap, which locks the cable and puck in place. Do note that the puck magnet is very strong so a tilt forward motion is still recommended to release the controller from the stand. |
| 9 May 2026 [v20260506] | Added variant where the puck & cable that come with the steam controller can be integrated in the WaveStand, so that the Steam Controller 2 can charge whilst docked. A tilt forward motion is recommended to remove the controller. You can also add some paper or cardboard to increase the tightness of the puck receptacle. |
| 6 May 2026 [v20260506] | Revised version based on official 3D model supplied by Valve. Verified fit on 8 May 2026! 👍 |
| 3 May 2026 [v20260503] | Initial version based on measurements, photos & public domain 3D mockups of the steam controller 2. This version is UNVERIFIED, meaning that there is no guarantee that the controller will fit as intended or at all really. Please check the comment section for feedback on this version. Expect a new revision after I get my hands on one myself. |
✨One design language that fits all your controllers
The WaveStand is designed to be easy to print, visually inconspicuous, sturdy and stable. It allows for easy, secure storage & display of your controllers with pick up and play remaining an option. They can be placed in dense configurations for tight spaces or nicely arranged for display purposes.
The base shape was designed to be broadly compatible with controllers ranging from the simple Super Nintendo gamepad to extremes like the original XBox “Duke” controller or the three-pronged N64 controller. That shape is then adjusted to the specifics of each controller, allowing for a conforming wrap around the device and is test printed to ensure stability, fit & finish.
🤔Why create WaveStands ?
I was unhappy with the available controller stands, either hiding/obstructing too much of the controller handles or a design that's really only made to display the controller, involving finicky thin prints that are snapped or stuck to the backside of the controller. Lots of stands are only compatible with one or two controller types and I wanted one design that could potentially scale to all controllers. I have a huge collection of over 100 controllers and I wanted visual consistency as well as allowing those controllers to be pick up and play.
⚙️ The "Creator" print profile is tweaked for fast & visually pleasing prints on a Bambu A1 mini, with aligned axis infill and hidden seams. Generally you can get around 10 WaveStands out of 1Kg of filament.
💡Tips:
- Layer height staircasing is very minimal, but can be improved by lightly sanding the upward transition. Matte filaments are generally great for this.
- You can print the WaveStand in matching colors to the controller or company ID to enhance the display appeal or alternatively match the environment to blend in. I wonder how it would look with more exotic filaments ?
❤️More WaveStands
I'm working to create more variants for all sorts of controllers. Please allow me some time to design, test & validate these prints. More designs will be added to MakerWorld over time. If you want a WaveStand for a specific controller, comment down below. That will allow me to prioritize some designs over others. Note that controllers I have in my collection will take priority. I do not have the funds to just go out and buy dozens of controllers.
