Descripción
I wanted to create something that feels organic and alive, so I came up with this Lotus-inspired design. It’s not just a flower, it’s a dual-rotor kinetic sculpture!
The Motion:
This thing is mesmerizing to watch. I’ve designed it with a double counter-rotation:
- The bottom leaves spin clockwise
- The lotus petals on top spin counter-clockwise.
When the wind hits, it creates a super cool "living" effect.
Printing Tips & Supports:
I spent a lot of time optimizing this for zero to minimal supports.
- Disclaimer: You might see some slight "fuzziness" or minor imperfections right at the base of the petals/leaves where the angle is the steepest. Honestly? Don't sweat it. It’s underneath the model, so it’s completely hidden once it’s mounted.
- Pro Tip: I do not recommend adding extra supports. These organic shapes are delicate, and you’ll likely break the petals trying to rip the supports off. Trust the 45-degree design, it prints great as-is!
Hardware Needed:
To get that smooth, infinite spin, you’ll need two 608 bearings. I optimized the fit for the ones from Bambu Maker's Supply:
- 608ZZ P5 Steel (EA028) — Good and solid.
- 608 Open Hybrid Ceramic (EA029) — Highly recommended! These are crazy fast and spin even with a tiny breeze.
Mounting Options:
- Pro Setup: The center is designed to slide perfectly onto a standard 8mm garden rod or carbon tube.
- All-in-One: If you don't have a rod, I’ve included a 3D-printable rod on Plate 3. (Make sure to print it with 100% infill and 6+ walls so it doesn't snap in the wind!).
Versions:
I’ve included two sizes in the files:
- Large: Perfect for the garden.
- Small: Great for a window box or a desk setup.
Hope you guys like the spin! If you print it, please post a video, I’d love to see it in action in your gardens! 🍃🌪️
