Customizable Name String Art

The parametric architecture of this string art engine allows you to customize the text string and use different Noto Emojis ([https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Emoji/glyphs](https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Emoji/glyphs)) to instantly transform the model into a personalized desk nameplate or hobby display. Because the OpenSCAD script handles the string convergence and text scaling automatically, generating an infinite variety of tailored signs is seamless and doesn't require manually reconstructing the bridging geometry for each iteration.

This flexibility makes it an excellent framework for bespoke, occasion-specific gifts. You can rapidly adjust the frame dimensions, drop in a name, and add relevant iconography to create custom nursery decor, teacher appreciation plaques, or specialized Mother's Day displays. By leveraging variables, the aesthetic can be fine-tuned for each distinct context, allowing you to easily expand your catalog with high-quality, personalized variants from a single core script.

Customization Options

FeatureDescription
Custom Text & Emojis

Set your name (text_string). Flank it with standard Noto Emojis like a soccer ball or a star. Copy emojis from [https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Emoji/glyphs](https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Emoji/glyphs) and paste into the prefix and suffix text fields.

Typography Control

Choose from dozens of embedded fonts (defaults to Lobster) and adjust the style, sizing, and positional offsets to fit the frame perfectly.

3D Relief Levels

Toggle the central text block to be embossed (raised), completely flat, or debossed (sunken into the halo base) using the content_relief slider.

String Engine Dynamics

Control the density of the rays (string_count) , the depth of the layers (string_layers) , and toggle string_weave for an alternating, overlapping aesthetic.

Frame Geometry

Dial in the exact frame_width , frame_height , and corner rounding (outer_corner_radius, inner_corner_radius) for a tailored fit.

How to Customize Your Display

This model uses MakerWorld's Parametric Model Maker. Click "Customize" at the top of this page to open the interface and build your own layout.

1. Set Your Text & Emojis

  • Main Text: Enter your name, team, or phrase in the `Text String` box.
  • Emojis: Use the `Text Prefix` and `Text Suffix` boxes to add symbols. Note: These use the Noto Emoji font. Copy and paste standard emojis (⚽, ⭐, 📷) directly into the boxes.
  • Font Selection: Choose from the dropdown list. If your text looks cramped, reduce the `Text Font Size` or adjust the `Content Spacing` slider.

2. Adjust the 3D Relief (Emboss / Deboss)

The `Content Relief` slider controls how the text sits on the center halo:

  • Positive Values (e.g., 2.0): Embosses the text so it is raised above the surface.
  • Zero (0.0): Makes the text perfectly flat and flush with the halo.
  • Negative Values (e.g., -1.5): Debosses the text, carving it into the halo.

3. Frame & Geometry Adjustments

  • Use `Frame Width` and `Frame Height` to scale the outer boundary. The string engine will automatically recalculate the bridging angles to fit.
  • Adjust `Outer Corner Radius` and `Inner Corner Radius` to change the frame from a sharp rectangle to a soft pill shape.

4. Fine-Tune the String Engine

  • String Count: Increases or decreases the density of the background rays.
  • String Layers: Spreads the strings vertically across the depth of the frame.
  • String Weave: Toggle this `true` to rotate alternating layers, creating a dynamic, overlapping moiré effect. Toggle `false` for a straight, stacked look.

Pro Tips for Printing

  • Wall Generator: Arachne is absolutely mandatory. The strings are meant to force the slicer to extrude them as single, continuous, highly tensioned lines. Standard wall generators will try to draw an outline and a gap, which will fail.
  • Zero Supports Required: Do not enable supports. The strings are printed as bridges. Supports will destroy the strings.
  • Do not Scale: The measurements for the strings are precise. Scaling the model up or down will likely fail to properly bridge the strings.
  • Cooling is Critical: Open printer enclosures and max out your part cooling fan for the bridging layers.
  • Bed Adhesion: Ensure your PEI plate is spotless. A quick wipe down with high-percentage IPA before hitting print will save you a headache.
