Descrição
Watch Caseback Press for Daniel Wellington Classic Sheffield 40 mm
A simple 3D-printable snap-back watch case press designed for reinstalling the back cover after a battery change.
This model was created with the Daniel Wellington Classic Sheffield 40 mm in mind, but it may also work for other slim watches with a similar snap-on caseback design.
The tool consists of four printable parts:
- C-frame / press body
- threaded screw spindle
- upper pressing cap
- lower support ring for the watch case
The lower ring supports the watch case while the screw applies controlled pressure from above. This helps press the snap-back cover into place more evenly than trying to push it on by hand.
Important Safety Note
Use this tool carefully and at your own risk.
A 3D-printed press is not as precise or rigid as a professional watchmaker’s tool. If the caseback requires a lot of force, does not sit evenly, or the watch starts to tilt, stop immediately and go to a watchmaker.
I strongly recommend adding a thin layer of felt, EVA foam, TPU, rubber, or another soft protective material to the contact surfaces before using the tool. This helps reduce the risk of scratches on the watch case, glass, or caseback.
Print Recommendations
Recommended material:
- PETG or ABS preferred
- PLA can work, but may be less durable under pressure
Suggested settings:
- Layer height: 0.20 mm
- Walls/perimeters: 5
- Infill: 45–60 %
- Infill pattern: gyroid or cubic
- Use enough top/bottom layers for strength
- Print orientation: use the provided orientation or adjust depending on your printer
For better durability, the C-frame should be printed with strong wall settings and sufficient infill.
How to Use
- Place soft protective material on the upper pressing cap and lower support ring.
- Put the watch face-down onto the lower ring.
- Make sure the watch case is supported by the case/bezel area, not by the center of the glass.
- Carefully align the caseback by hand.
- Slowly turn the screw until the caseback snaps into place.
- Stop immediately if the cover tilts, the watch moves, or excessive force is needed.
