Descrição
A kinetic floral windmill that turns the lightest breeze into a smooth, hypnotic spin. Designed as a clean, modern garden piece with a robust dual-bearing core — fully snap-fit, no glue, no tools.
Inspired by the kinetic art style of BamBamDesign, redesigned from the ground up in OnShape as my own construction.
Print Specs
- Print time: ~11.2 h across 3 plates
- Layer height: 0.16 mm (designed and tested at this height for clean snap-fit tabs)
- Walls/infill for outdoor use: 3+ walls, 15–20% infill recommended
- Supports: none needed (snap-fit oriented for support-free printing)
Material Guide
- PLA – great for indoor display, covered balconies, or seasonal use. Note: PLA softens in direct summer sun and degrades under prolonged UV, so it's best kept out of harsh, all-day exposure.
- PETG or ASA – recommended for true year-round outdoor placement (heat- and UV-resistant).
Bill of Materials
- 2× 608ZZ bearings (standard "skateboard" bearings) — for smooth, lasting rotation
- 1× wooden rod, 6 mm diameter — used as the main stem
- No glue required — petals and core simply snap together
Assembly Tip
Snap-fit tolerances are deliberately tight for wind stability. On a calibrated printer they click in satisfyingly. If a tab is too tight, a little light sanding does the trick.
A Note on Fidget Appeal
The bearing core spins freely and quietly — surprisingly satisfying to flick by hand, not just in the wind. If you're into sensory and fidget-style pieces, this one scratches that itch too.
