Descrição

Seed Shaker – Open Source Rewilding Pack

A refillable, pocket-sized seed shaker designed for urban rewilding.

This flower-shaped shaker is made to be taken out into the world — on walks, commutes, lunch breaks — and used to scatter seeds into overlooked urban spaces. A small, simple way to bring colour, biodiversity and life back into the city.

The design is optimised for low-waste, accessible 3D printing:

  • No supports required
  • Minimal material use (perfect for end-of-roll filament)
  • Mono-material construction
  • Fully mechanical (no magnets, glue or inserts)
  • Durable, refillable, and designed to be used again and again

We recommend printing in PLA, but feel free to use whatever material you have available — including leftover or end-of-roll filament.

Seed Mixes (UK Examples)

These mixes are designed for different UK soil conditions. If you’re elsewhere, use this as inspiration and create a mix suited to your local ecosystem.

Always mix seeds with ~50% horticultural sand.
This helps distribute seeds more evenly, prevents overseeding, and makes it easier to see where you’ve scattered.

London – “Stubborn Clay” Mix

Heavy, compacted, often waterlogged, then bone dry. Needs tough survivors.

  • Common Poppy — thrives in cracks and poor soil
  • Cornflower — fast-growing pollinator favourite
  • Oxeye Daisy — hardy perennial, loves clay
  • Red Campion — handles shade (walls, tree bases)
  • Yellow Rattle — suppresses grass to let wildflowers thrive

Brighton – “Coastal Chalk” Mix

Dry, alkaline, windy, and exposed.

  • Viper’s Bugloss — thrives in rubble and chalk
  • Kidney Vetch — supports Small Blue butterflies
  • Wild Clary — loves hot, dry verges
  • Lady’s Bedstraw — dense, honey-scented ground cover
  • Restharrow — tough, woody, survives trampling

Leeds – “Northern Grit” Mix

Cooler, wetter, more acidic, moisture-retentive soils.

  • Foxglove — prolific self-seeder
  • Teasel — structural, feeds birds in winter
  • Selfheal — semi-evergreen ground cover
  • Ragged Robin — thrives in damp patches
  • Bird’s-foot Trefoil — improves poor soil, pollinator-friendly
