Overview:

This Self-Watering Seed Starter features a unique "print-flat" design. The pots are printed as a single flat sheet, which you then fold into shape. This approach not only ensures a perfect surface finish on all sides but also makes the model incredibly easy print and to store when not in use.
 

Each pot is engineered with a 21 hole honeycomb pattern at the base and surrounding walls. When placed in the reservoir, the soil sucks up exactly the amount of water it needs through these holes, keeping your seedlings hydrated without rotting the roots.

Key model features:

• Self-watering system: is designed to make plant care effortless. The water is stored in the base reservoir. Each pot has a honeycomb pattern at the bottom that allows the soil to soak up exactly the right amount of moisture through capillary action. To make things even easier, I added a built-in funnel to the tray, so you can refill the water quickly,
• Foldable Design: The pots feature "hinges". Simply bend the walls along the seams to transform the flat sheet into a square pot.
• Integrated Water Funnel: The base tray includes a dedicated built-in funnel. This allows you to refill the reservoir easily without disturbing your delicate seedlings or splashing water on the leaves.

• Material Efficient: Optimized to use minimal filament while maintaining a rigid structure once folded.

   

Printing and assembly tips from the creator:

• Material: I highly recommend using PLA or just basic PETG. Since the pots require bending, a material with some "give" ensures the hinges won't snap.
• I strongly recommend bending your pots ASAP when they are still warm. You can also use a hair dryer to bring some temperature into your print and then bend them accordingly.
• First Layer: Ensure your bed is leveled and correctly flow calibrated. Since the hinges are thin, a clean first layer is essential for them not to snap.
• Assembly: Gently pre-bend the hinges before final assembly. Once folded, the pots lock into place inside the tray that goes into the base of the seedstarter.
