Description
This test evaluates the tendency of the material/printer setup to produce stringing artifacts between separate features during non-print moves. Stringing typically occurs when molten material oozes from the nozzle while traveling between points, forming thin strands or “strings.”
The model used in this test consists of multiple vertical towers spaced at set distances. As the printer moves between these towers, any unintended extrusion becomes visible, making it easier to assess retraction performance, temperature settings, and travel behavior.
Key factors influencing stringing include:
- Retraction distance and speed
- Nozzle temperature
- Travel speed
- Material type and moisture content
The goal of this test is to minimize or eliminate visible stringing, resulting in clean separation between structures and improved overall print quality.
