STOP WASTING FILAMENT
With this brand new design you can transform your waste filament into industrial grade molded parts even easier than before
Based upon my earlier design this all new system features major improvements making it even easier to work with. Most notably new system is not only modular but also parametric, now you can customise the insert size without reprinting the holder.
Most notable features include:
- High pressure compression molding perfect for demanding geometry like building bricks and other,
- Low filament consumption,
- Only 4 M8 bolts,
- Modular composition,
- Parametric models,
- Tested design,
- Blank molds for your own design (I'm curious what will you come up with, so please post as a remix)
Modular system guide:
Base of this model are press plates, these 2 plates will be the element transferring forces from bolts to mold inserts, they have built in cross pattern reinforcement to help prevent bending.
Other than that you will need a mold insert of you desired part, in this model I've included molds for fidget toy of gyro spinner and 2x2 building brick compatible with all major brick manufacturers. These need to be printed from at least PETG, but the more heat resistant material you will print these the better it will work.
Optionally you can print Spacer plates, they will help with centering mold inserts therefore distributing the forces evenly.
Parametric function allows you to modify insert size depending on your needs. To use it correctly remember that MaxPartWidth&Lenght is 15mm smaller than insert size.
How to use?
Measure out the correct filament weight, (for building brick it's around 3.8g and for spinner around 2.2g of PLA)

- Coat mold insert inside surface with releasing agent (WD40, cooking oil, other oil, or for best results silicone spray)
Heat up the PLA to 210°C (410°F or 483 K)

- Optionally you can preheat the mold inserts to temperature just below their HDT (or put them for very short time with the PLA, but be careful to not soften them)
Transfer the PLA into mold inserts

- Quickly assemble 2 mold halves
- Compress by tightening the screws
- DO NOT RE TIGHTEN AFTER A FEW MINUTES, this will result in mold insert deforming
- Let it cool
Disassemble the mold and take out the part

If you want other mold designs please feel free to reach out.
Notes:
Molds from earlier design are also compatible with this one.
For best result make the mold inserts from heat resistant material, this will allow preheating to higher temps and improve flow of plastic.
If you are making your own insert remember that there needs to be a draft angle of at least 3-4 deg.
