The Mind-Reader Pendulum. A 3D-Printed Lie Detector
Think you can hide the truth? Think again! I designed this 3D-printed "Lie Detector" to show how your subconscious mind can actually move objects. This is a quick and easy print that uses a simple physics trick to "read" your thoughts.
How It Works. Subconscious Movement
This device uses the ideomotor effect. Even when you think your hand is perfectly still, your brain sends tiny, involuntary signals to your muscles.
The string acts as an amplifier: it takes those microscopic finger twitches and turns them into big, visible movements. Because of the way the weight is balanced, your subconscious thoughts will push the pendulum into two distinct patterns:
- YES (true) The weight will start to swing back and forth in a straight line.
- NO (false) The weight will begin to spin in circles
How to Set It Up
- Print the parts: These are designed to be fast, easy prints with no supports needed.
- Tie it up: Tie one end of your string to the 3D-printed ring and the other end to the hook on the weight.
- Test it: Put the ring on your index finger and let the weight hang still. Ask a yes or no question that you know the answer to (like maker world is the best) and watch the weight start to move on its own!

⚠️ Warning: This is a fun science project and is not a real or scientifically proven lie detector. The movement is caused by subconscious muscle motions (the ideomotor effect), so results are not 100% accurate and should not be used for serious real-life decisions.
