PETG Support Interface Test – PLA/PETG Separation Calibration
This test model helps you determine whether your PETG filament works effectively as a support interface (separation layer) when printing with PLA.
By printing this model, you can quickly evaluate:
- How well PETG prevents supports from bonding to PLA
- Ease of support removal
- Surface quality after separation
- Optimal interface settings in your slicer
How it works
The model is designed to simulate a typical support + interface scenario:
- Main structure printed in PLA
- Interface layers printed in PETG
- Allows direct comparison of adhesion and separation behavior
What to test
- Different interface layer counts
- Z-distance / contact distance
- Support density
- PETG brand/type compatibility
Recommended settings (starting point)
- Main material: PLA
- Support interface: PETG
- Interface layers: 2–4
- Z-distance: 0.0–0.1 mm
- No cooling changes required
Important notes
- PETG does not chemically bond well with PLA → ideal for support separation
- Results vary depending on filament brand and printer tuning
- Clean nozzle when switching materials to avoid contamination
