** OpenGrid under-desk HOLD ANYTHING brackets **
There are a few (?) parametric OpenGrid mount generators on Makerworld, but I couldn't find one that worked for me. BlackjackDuck's generator is great, but it's designed to create vertically oriented units. I wanted something that would generate mounts for under-desk OpenGrid ala Underware. So I baked my own.
I used the MultiConnect slot design files from cschneid (who forked from QuackWorks) and made them attachable with BOSL2, and added the parametric brackets. Making it attachable was not strictly necessary, but it was very helpful in conceptializing how things are related to the coordinate system and to each other.
This parametric model can generate mounting brackets to attach rectangular objects of any size to an under-desk OpenGrid setup.
**ANY SIZE** means ANY. SIZE. (ok, limited to larger than (28 - wall*2) mm x 56 mm in W x L)
- surge protectors (power strips)
- power bricks / power adapters
- thin client computer
- Extremely large objects: Microwave, Box of bricks, etc - No problem! split the mounting brackets and print on your A1 Mini. (Very heavy objects may break the brackets or OpenGrid, but the mounts will generate corectly!)
- when generating split brackets (4 objects) make sure to enter the dimensions of your object correctly. The generator takes into account both length and width when generating the mounting slots, and precisely positions the slots on each mounting bracket.
Key Features:
- Fit to any size object (of rectangular cuboid shape).
- Individually customizable brackets - generate asymmetric brackets by specify different heights, lengths, support ledges for each bracket.
- Position of connector slots are adjusted based on length of object to be mounted - when the brackets are mounted, the object should fit neatly within the brackets
- Adjustable slot/grid distance. The default is 28mm (OpenGrid standard).
- Split brackets to hold very large objects (generate corner brackets)
Customizer notes:
- The variables for the two brackets are entered as elements in the vector (aka array). First column for the first bracket, second column for the second bracket.
- "Back face" in the parametric menu refers to the side of the bracket facing *away from the other bracket*.
- The variables marked "BOOLEAN" will take either a 0=false or 1=true value.
- Optimal print orientation depends on selected parameters, so decide/experiment for yourself.
Other features:
- The wall of the slots is shared with the bottom surface of the bracket, so there is no wasted thickness.
- Chamfered edges to protect your fingers.
- Sparse walls option - save your filament.
Visual enhancements for preview rendering
- Render the brackets in real-world layout, or put them side by side for printing.
- Include a ghost image of the object and underlying grid so you can see how many units of space you will need, and how it might all come together.
