3D model Customizable stackable variable height shelves by Light Duty Magic on MakerWorld

Description

Fill any space with tiny shelves!

Hardware, electronic kits, and tools all come in boxes of inconsistent sizes. Storing them efficiently is a nightmare.
Replacing them with a unified storage system like Gridfinity leads to a ton of plastic waste.

This project aims to adapt to the boxes and tools you already have and to the constraints of your workspace.

Examples:

  • Print shelves with a perfect fit for the Billy bookcase or Callax
  • Stack a tall, shallow mini-shelf system for the garage to save space
  • Organize endless boxes, devices, and tools

Features:

  • Bespoke: customize dimensions based on inner size (to fix boxes you have), or based on outer size (to fit your space)
  • Stackable: horizontal and vertical stacking work for shelves with a matching footprint
  • Adaptable: configure the height and depth of each shelf using rails and stoppers
  • Accessible: shelves slide out to give access if you need deep or low shelves
  • Lazy: optimized for long prints instead of long assembly. print uses a solid single body frame structure, and provides stacked shelves for printing in one go

Important notes:

  • Save parameters: Keep track of the parameters you set to be able to print compatible items in the future. Stacking works if footprints match
  • Split objects: After generating the customized files, make two copies of the object:
    • Split the first part into parts, and remove the shelves and support layers
    • Expand the second in the left menu and remove everything except stacked shelves while keeping layers as a single object
  • Objects orientation:
    • Lay the stopper on the diagonal cut side to print without supports
    • Lay the frame on the back wall for printing
  • Special print settings:
    • A two-sided connector is needed only for horizontal stacking. It requires support. Vertical stacking can be done with a one-sided connector
    • Stacked shelves come with alternating support layers. You need to treat them as one object with multiple parts, then set support material as appropriate. I use PLA for shelves and PETG for support layers, but you choose what works for you better.
    • Set 100% infill for stacked shelves. (Bamboo Studio doesn't respect top-bottom layers settings for parts that don't have gaps.

If you know an easier way to design and configure support layers, please let me know in the comments.)
