Cap Wall Mount – 3D-Printable Baseball Cap Display
Yes, it's a wall mount (clip) for hats. No, I didn't need to overthink it this much. But here we are, with optimized layer orientation, parametric everything (see my GitHub repo for the OpenSCAD design code), and a button cutout so your cap's top button doesn't get squished over the next decade.
A fully parametric, FDM-optimized wall mount for displaying baseball caps. Fold a cap in half, slide its brim into the arc channel, and hang the mount on a drywall screw — done. Mount several in a grid for an organized, easy-access cap wall.
For a cleaner look, bolt the mounts to a plexiglass sheet and hang the panel using the included standoff spacers; this creates a floating display of caps on your wall.
What's Included
- Cap wall mount — with keyhole screw slot and optional bottom screw hole for direct wall mounting, or bolt-through holes for plexiglass mounting.
- Standoff tube — cylindrical spacer that sits between the plexiglass and the wall, with an optional flat edge for printing on its side.
Key Features
- Designed for FDM strength — print on its side (tapered edge down) so layer lines run along the arc walls, carrying load in shear rather than tension across layer bonds.
- Tapered backplate — reduces material and provides a flat edge for the print bed. Default 20° taper for easy slicer rotation.
- Arc channel — two concentric curved walls sized to hold a folded cap by its brim.
- Strap ridge — prevents the cap's adjustable strap from sliding off. Can also be used to hang caps by the strap.
- Button cutout — an arched slot at the top gives the cap's button room to sit without being compressed over time.
- Filleted arc walls — rounded lower edges for smoother cap insertion and removal.
- Keyhole mounting — hang on a single drywall screw; optional second screw hole for extra security.
- Countersunk screw holes — screw heads sit flush.
- Fully parametric — every dimension is adjustable in the OpenSCAD source.
My Setup
I mounted 18 cap mounts (6 rows × 3 columns) on a 24″ × 48″ plexiglass sheet using #6 bolts, nuts, and washers. The plexiglass is held off the wall with six 3D-printed standoff spacers and six 3″ wood screws.
Print Tips
- Orientation: Print the cap mount on its side with the tapered edge down. Rotate by the taper angle (default 20°) in your slicer.
- Standoff tube: Print with the flat-edge variant on its side so layer lines run along the tube length — strongest orientation for compressive loads.
- Minimal supports needed when printed in the recommended orientation.
